New at Valuation Engineer Research Labs: the Foundation Concepts as a Dependency Map

2026-10-04

Valuation Engineer Research Labs is a new companion site to the Journal. It publishes short papers, working notes, neighborhood studies and the Prolog, R and Python code behind them, between issues. Its sections follow the Journal's subjects. The papers are working papers: they are not peer reviewed, and the Journal remains the version of record.

The first paper, Dependency Map of Foundation Concepts , draws the seventeen Foundations entries of Vol. 1 Nos. 1 and 2 as an engineering sheet. Each entry is a block; an arrow from one entry to another means the first uses vocabulary the second establishes, so the second should be read first. Selecting an entry shows what it depends on and what depends on it. Beneath the drawing, a parts list shows where each of the department's central ideas is defined (the classification of valuation practice, the price decomposition, condition and the remodel, confounder and mediator, the residual and the Journal's method, the scheme and the value effect) and which entries use it.

The drawing is generated from the Journal's knowledge base, the same facts the entries' Prolog companions are tested against, and will be redrawn as Issue 3's entries are added.
